Hi
I have a BA Falcon XT with sports suspension option. I do a lot of highway driving and I feel the car is really floaty over dips at highway speeds and around corners there is a bit of roll.

I also have fitted a front bar which has made the front low (same clearance as FPV GT now), so I dont think I should lower the car anymore because if I dont take the right angles on steep driveways it seems to scrape.

What sort of package should I get to make it handle better? I saw the XR6T package which looks good, but is it possible to get stiffer springs without lowering the front end anymore?

Im also thinking about getting 18" rims. Should I get these before or after getting the suspension work done?

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your posting.
I assume by "sports suspension option", that this means that you have uprated and lowering spring option. If this are genuine XR-series springs, which are significantly stiffer and lower then the standard version, then you don't have to change them.

Based on XR-series springs, our Control springs will have a further 10-15mm drop, where the Flatout option a further 15-20mm. But that's entirely up to you.

I will however suggest that you will need sports shocks to cancel out the floating feel and handling that you are currently experiencing. The bad news is that we don't have suitable shocks available yet, but the good news is that we are very close to releasing our Group'2 sports adjustable replacement shocks for Falcon BA.

I will also recommend that you upgrade your front and rear sway bars, and ideally use adjustables for their tuning advantage.

So, good springs together with matching shocks and uprated sway bars will give you a very satisfying car.

It doesn't really matter when you fit bigger wheels, as long as they are correct and within factory specs.

how do these parts relate to the parts in the xr6t package? are they the same?

Hi,

Yes, the XT6-turbo in the article was fitted with the prototype shocks that we will have available soon, and the springs and sway bars are available now.

also how much does the stiffness vary between the control and flatout springs?

The sports suspension is an option on the XT, futura, which has slightly stiffer springs but no where near as stiff as the XR series, although after driving the XR Im not sure if its the springs or the shocks producing the stiffness.

Is there a release date on the shocks?

I might get the wheels first if they are not ready yet. Current wheels are 215/60/R16 on Goodyear eagles which have flat spots, and Im going to get 245/40/18s wrapped with Bridgestone O2.

Hi,

Both Control and Flatout are progressive rate springs, with similar specs.
Based on your last comments on your springs, you may want to replace them with either XR-series or our Control.

Control springs specs;
73191 - front, progressive rate 390>510 lbs/in, average WTG 360mm
73192 - rear, progressive rate 200>280 lbs/in, average WTG 360mm

This will give you an indication of the relative ride heights.

The shocks should be released within a week.

Hi,

WTG - wheel to guard.

Measure the ride height from the centre of wheel to the guard, at all four wheels, with the car parked on a level ground.

I have just measured my WTG on my standard XR8 ute, it is 360mm standard, what can I expect this to be with the 73191 springs fitted to the front?
