View Full Version : Creaking Sounds

I have a '98 Ford Laser with a set of Whiteline Control springs. My shocks are standard and the car has done about 75 000km

However, I have noticed creaking sounds (like old door creaking sounds) when I turn and also approaching and leaving inclines. The sound seems to be coming from the rear.

I know this is not related to the springs as I have had this noise before they were installed.

I am thinking this may be a shock related problem? A mate suggesting it may be my CV joints, but I have no idea.

Would anyone have any idea what's causing this? If they are the shocks, can I please be recommended which ones to use. The car is only used for city driving.

Also, has Whiteline got a recommended workshop in Victoria?

I've been told that maybe certain parts of my suspension needs lubricating? If that's the case, should be easy and cheap fix then, but I'm not sure.

I can then spend money on a swaybar instead of shocks :p

Hello,

We find that most creaking noises come from sway bar D bushes, so that may be a good starting point for you, try giving them a light lubrication and see if this helps.
If this does not help, the problem may be from some of the control arm or trailing arm buhes. A good way to locate these problems is to put the vehicle up on ramps, and with someone bouncing the vehicle, spray some penetrant spray like WD40 onto suspect bushes, when the noise stops you have located the source of the problem.
I don't beleive that this would be CV related, as they very rarely give off a creaking noise.
Often when vehicles have their ride height altered, people doing the installation forget to put the vehicle back on all four wheels and loosen all the control arm bolts, and then re-tighten to allow the bushes to settle back into a position with no pre-laod. Failure to carry out this practice will cause premature bush failure and squeaking bushes.

I hope this helps you.
