G'day,
There have been a number of threads and emails circulating about use of adjustable strut tops with Whiteline Group 4's. In particular there was an issue with WRX GD front Group 4's not fitting properly with Noltec/MRT adjustable strut tops.
The following is a response to one of these threads outlinning the dimensions and explaing why this is not related to the Group 4 design as such

We are unsure of why there is a problem with this, but we suspect that the stock tapered washer is re-used. This is the washer that is located between top spring seat and top strut mount. Refer item #19 in the attachment.
Although it can be, Group'4 kit does not require this tapered washer (#19) to be re-used. This is due to the shape of the Group'4 top spring seat.
Here are detailed measurements of all key components.
1. Noltec total bearing assembly height = 23.5 mm
this is made up of;
1a) Noltec bearing inner race height = 16mm
1b) Noltec top adaptor (shoulder) height = 2mm
1c) Noltec bottom adaptor (shoulder) height) = 5.5mm
2. Subaru OEM top bearing height = 13mm[/]
3. Subaru OEM top nut thickness = 12.2mm
4. Subaru OEM top spring seat thickness = 2mm
5. Subaru OEM washer (#19) thickness = 5.5mm
[B]6. Subaru OEM shock spigot length = 40mm
7. Group'4 top spring seat thickness = 6.5mm
8. Group'4 top nyloc nut thickness = 12mm
9. Group'4 shock spigot length = 42mm
Here is the sum of the parts assembled, in various combinations;
CASE 1. OEM shock + OEM top mount (with washer)
13 + 12.2 + 2 + 5.5 = 32.7mm (spigot=40mm)
CASE 2. Noltec top mount + OEM strut/spring (without washer)
23.5 + 12.2 + 2 = 37.7mm (spigot=40mm)
CASE 3. Noltec top mount + OEM strut/spring (with washer)
23.5 + 12.2 + 2 + 5.5 = 43.2mm (spigot=40mm)
CASE 4. Group'4 + OEM top mount (without washer)
6.5 + 12 + 13 = 31.5mm (spigot=42mm)
CASE 5. Group'4 + OEM top mount (with washer)
6.5 + 12 + 13 + 5.5 = 37mm (spigot=42mm)
CASE 6. Group'4 + Noltec top mount (without washer)
6.5 + 23.5 + 12 = 42mm (spigot=42mm)
CASE 7. Group'4 + Noltec top mount (with washer)
6.5 + 23.5 + 12 + 5.5 = 48.5mm (spigot=42mm)
As you can see, only case 3 and 7 are incompatible, both use Noltec top mounts and OEM washer.
-------------------------------------------------
Hope that helps cover any compatability issues.
Cheers
Jim
