Hey everyone,

Wow honored to be what appears the first person to post in this section LOL.

I labeled this thread as 1 because I feel that I will be asking about many set up scenario's in the future here. I hope that's ok with you guys.

If anything perhaps others on this forum that will be looking at similar scenario's as myself, and other questions I may ask that my customers will have about their road/race car type set up's can answer some of their own questions as well.

Anyhow, here is what I'm looking at. Hopefully some time next year I will be running a MY02-03 Impreza WRX (U.S Spec, we didn't get the Spec-c models here or even the STi version until 04:( ) In hillclimb/tarmac rallye type events.

The typical surface conditions will usually be smooth flowing tarmac to more bumpy type tarmac sections. The car will have a full roll cage and will undergo quite a bit of chassis stiffening (seem/spot welding and bracing etc.) as well as switching out the majority of the oem bushes (Whiteline of course;) ).

This is what I have in mind in the line of a set up so far:

24mm front and rear adjustable sway bars with spherical adjustable end links for each end.

Race model ALK

Roll center adjuster kit

Falekn Azenis rt-615 or Hankook RS2 semi-slick type tyres (haven't determined exactly which wheel size or width yet)

And heres the main one I can't seem to decide on fully yet. I really wanted to run the Whiteline g4 type coilover damper set up. The problem is though there very difficult to find here new (there's a few to be had second hand but I'd prefer starting out fresh). And I'm sorry to hear you guy's have discontinued them over there as well.

So then I looked at the more readily available and I believe very similar AST Sportline coilover dampers. ( I don't think I will be able to budget the Raceline type, this will be funded by my personal money). There is also a company here called TiC (Turn in Concepts) that have made their own variation, they are revalved (not sure to what specs) and have different spring rates then the conventional one's.

Others I have considered are the KW variant 3 type coilover dampers, or another company also has a revalved/uprated spring version of them, that seem more appropriate to motorsport application (RCE Tarmac2).

I also plan on running the motorsport type Max-C camber plates front and rear for all these.

I suppose mainly what I'm asking then is which damper in this type of range would you feel is most suited. I'm not certain at the moment which spring rates each set up is running, but that is something I can find out for you if need be as I know it will be very important.

Also any recommendations you may have about the other bit's I have planned on using (the swaybars etc.) if different from my own would be very helpful to me.

The car will be used almost entirely for motorsport's type use, so any compromises that may need to be made as far as daily drive ability aren't much of a concern to me.

Sorry about the extra long post LOL....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!!:)

Hi Anthony,

In relation to the shocks mentioned I am a keen fan of the AST shock, and remember from seeing there dampening rate and sizing that they are very similar to the Group4 coilovers.

Having said that there is nothing wrong with the other brands, this is just my preference.

With spring rates I will post them up now for your general information.

Front spring length was 150- 9.0 kg/mm Race track spec
Rear spring length was 140- 8.0 kg/mm Race track spec

Front spring length was 220- 5.0 kg/mm Circuit/ hillclimb track spec
Rear spring length was 180- 4.0 kg/mm Circuit/ hillclimb track spec

Bar sizes at 24mm are ok for semi slicks, although some guys do go for the bigger 27mm bars These 27mm bars are probably better suited for more track work as opposed to hill climbs.

A couple other products you could use in the Whiteline range are the KTA109 rear lateral suspension arms, which have turnbuckle style adjusters and used in conjunction with the KCA377 toe lock kit eliminate any toe angle adjuster slippage due to high cornering impact loads.

Also KSB750 and KSB751 are other good products to use as this locks up the rear subframe and diff support from moving.

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for your response Dave,

Indeed it does help!

I also appreciate you posting the specs for the springs up for me. I believe I probably will go the route of the AST then.

We had actually planned on using the Whiteline rear lateral links, and toe lock kit, I just forgot to mention it in my first post.

We actually have a pretty big stockpile of Whiteline bit's we plan to use, since we stock them and sell them LOL. I will maybe post some pics or something up in one of the threads here maybe, once we set off on putting her together.

Thanks much,

-Anthony
