Hi Guys,

I have a VYII SS Ute that is mainly a road car but I use it at Wakefield Park, Hill Climbs and the Odd Dutton rally.

It has a lot of under steer that i would like to try and dial out of it. I'm guessing i need to change the rear sway bar?? Do you have anything available for Utes?

I don't know spring rates but it currently has front coil over?s with Bilstein inserts/king sprigs, and Bilstein rear shocks with king springs (it?s the old suspension out of the racing V8 Ute) the only other thing i have changed suspension wise is the radius rod bushes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,
In simple terms, increasing rear roll resistance through an uprated rear swaybar will reduce understeer/induce oversteer. But, if your understeer is not caused by roll resistance imbalance but by something else, then this would only be a band-aid solution.

Some factors that may cause understeer are, especially on a modified car such as yours are, and can be broken down into two main categories:

Suspension hardware:
- incorrect front to rear spring ratio
- incorrect front to rear swaybar ratio
- insufficient front suspension bump travel

Suspension set-up:
- incorrect ride height rake, front too hight or too low
- inappropriate wheel alignment settings

You should address all above points to be able to work out the appropriate solution. Otherwise, you may find yourself running in circles.

I don't know much about your suspension, but we have set-up VX-VY ute with our Group'4 coil-overs (prototype), swaybars, alignment kits, etc... and we were very happy with the results.

Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Regareds,
Wojtek.

Thanks Wojtek,

I will see if i can find the spring rates and check the bump travel and ride heights. i might come back and ask for some more advice.

Cheers,

John
